| As some of you may know or have seen, i havent been using my fog lights. i was on my way to walmart when i hit a bump and my fog lights went out, so when i got there i looked and found out that i blew a size 15 fuse. so i bought some more 15s and put another one in the slot and blew that instantly, so i went up a size and went with a 20. that one blew instantly. i was lucky to have one last 25 in my tool box because i used it and meraculously my drivers side fog light worked but the passenger side didnt. i was very worried because i thought a wire was grounding out somewhere and i would have to tear the front end off the car and find it or have the dealership do it for prolly around a grand. i got this idea and i presented it to a few people and not a person agreed with it. my idea was that the ballast that i used for my passenger side fog light was blown causing the bulb to not turn on causing my fuse to blow. i took both of my fog lights off and took my dads current tester to both fog light plugs. both of them worked correctly. so i was hoping it was just the ballast and i switched the ballast for another and both of my fog lights are working again. i guess it turned out that i was right in the beginning. i put this problem off for so long because i was afraid of the cause of the problem, but im glad i had the right tools and had found a simple solution. | |

| For future reference, replacing the fuse that the manufacture supplies you with a larger one because you keep blowing the size you are supose to have is not a good idea. By doing this you are putting a bandaid on the problem and not fixing it which can lead to worse problems in the future. If you put a fuse in that will flow more current than the wire can, and you have something drawing more current you can damage what ever is connected to the wireing and maybe cause a fire.
If you pop a fuse and you replace it with the same size and it pops again, then there is prolly a reason why.
Putting a larger fuse in is not a bad thing if you can determine the max fuse size for the wire gauge and the current being drawn. | |
